A Certificate of Participation is awarded to participants who contribute constructively to weekly discussions and exercises/learning activities for the duration of the course.
This tutor-led, cohort-based online course is 7-weeks in duration and is made up of 5 teaching units.
Unit 1 - The Son of Caesar
Learning objectives:
To have understood the political situation in Rome in 44 BC.

Unit 2 - The Rise to Triumvir

To provide an introduction to the first imperial writers, including Vergil, Horace and Livy.
Unit 4 - The first Emperor
Learning objectives:
To learn about the various events that occurred during the reign of Augustus.
To learn about the Julio-Claudian family.
To explore contemporary art and architecture (including Augustan building projects).
Unit 5 - Augustus
Learning objectives:
To gain an understanding of the size and diversity of the empire.
To learn about the Client kings.
To explore how Rome controlled the provinces.
To understand what is meant by the term 'Romanization'.
To explore the legacy of Augustus.
