Team coaching

Alexandra Wiedermann-Huczek

A Certificate of Participation is awarded to participants who contribute constructively to weekly discussions and exercises/learning activities for the duration of the course.

This tutor-led, cohort-based online course is 7-weeks in duration and is made up of 5 teaching units.

Unit 1 - Teams: applying models and theories

Learning objectives: 

  • To consider a range of models and teams that create insights into team performance and culture. 

  • To understand what constitutes a team and how it differs from a working group

  • To explore different types of teams

  • To reflect upon the stages of team development 

  • To consider the teams they belong to and reflected their experiences with the models and theories

Unit 2 - Teams: roles, performance and outcomes

Learning objectives: 

  • To understand the roles individuals play in the team and the impact this has.

  • To understand different team roles and types

  • To understand the relation between individual and team performance 

  • To explore the concept of team performance – from world class performance to dysfunction

  • To consider constructive and destructive team behaviours 

Unit 3 - Coaching the team

Learning objectives: 

  • To understand the potential role for coaching in the team as an approach to enhance team effectiveness

  • To understand basic coaching concepts 

  • To explore the role of coaching in the team 

  • To analyse the leader’s role as coach 

  • To experience coaching as coach and coachee 

Unit 4 - The psychology of teams

Learning objectives: 

  • To introduce psychological concepts, models, and approaches that help explain team patterns. B

  • To understand basic psychological models for team coaching

  • To explore basic group dynamics

  • To reflect upon the potential value of coaching in teams

  • To consider family systems and the influence these might have upon team roles

Unit 5 - Towards team excellence

Learning objectives: 

  • To explore coaching and other methodologies to raise performance and strengthen team culture, including a coaching culture.

  • To understand the factors that support excellent team performance 

  • To reflect upon the impact of a positive team culture 

  • To explore the potential value of coaching-based relationships 

  • To consider how to take the learning back to the workplace
