This tutor-led, cohort-based online course is 7-weeks in duration and is made up of 5 teaching units.
Unit 1: Troubled times

- To develop an understanding of the formative Roman Empire in strategic, political and economic terms.
Unit 4: The Civil War
Learning objectives:
- To explore why Rome became a military dictatorship.
- To gain an understanding of 'client kings'.
- To look at the wider idea of how democratic governments can collapse.
- To review the Roman army's role in politics.
Unit 5: Caesar the dictator
Learning objectives:
- To explore Caesar's later life.
- To examine different approaches to history, and how perceptions of history affect later events.
